Sydney's Dance Recital

Sydney has been working very hard for the past year, all building up to her big dance recital this weekend. She did three routines...tap, ballet, and Daddy/Daughter. Unfortunately, I don't think Daron would allow me to post the video of his dance, but he also did great and is such a good Daddy for doing that for Sydney. All of the little girls in her class did amazing and she looked absolutely beautiful!

Someone please tell this sweet little princess to stop growing up so fast!

To my beautiful daughter, you bring so much joy and love to my life. Your personality is hilarious and I love how you always try to make everyone laugh. You are sweet, kind, caring, smart, and funny. I am so proud of the little girl you are growing into.

Happy Birthday Sydney!

Better Late than Never :o)

Wow! Has it really been 6 months since I updated the blog??? Life has been so busy, so here is a quick recap of the past several months:

Christmas 2010

In February, we were lucky this year to get a ton of snow! That is very rare in Texas, so we really appreciate it when we actually get it. I think the kids missed an entire week of school because it was so cold that the snow and ice never melted. Luckily, we only had to make up two days and didn't end up in school until mid-June!

In March, we had Spring Break, but there is not much to report as we had no time for fun activities since the entire family had the flu. Sydney was even lucky enough to get it twice!

Also, in March and April, Alex started another soccer season. This was his favorite season so far. He had such a great time and really has gotten better at the game. We were lucky enough to be on a team with several kids from his class and from our neighborhood. He was so excited when his teacher came out to watch all her kids play.

For Mother's Day, the kids and Daron treated me to a weekend at a hotel and a wonderful afternoon at the new Legoland Discovery Center. We had a wonderful time exploring and building so many things.

Next up in May, was Sydney's preschool end of year program. They did the cutest little musical performance! Only one more year until kindergarten (insert sniffs here). Here are a few pictures of Sydney with her best friend from preschool.

Also in May was Alex's field day at his school. Due to heavy rain, we had to have it in the gym, but we still had a great time! I just love that I am able to participate in his activities at school.

Finally for May is Alex's 1st grade graduation! He had the best teacher this year, and we are really going to miss her when he is in 2nd grade. I am so proud of him for all he has accomplished this year. He received the following awards: "A" Honor Roll, Outstanding Citizenship, Special Recognition for reading 200+ books, and a Six Flags Reading Award.

Next up is Sydney's birthday, but that deserves a post of its own!

Disney 2010

It's been awhile since our last post, but life has a way of getting busy sometimes. We had an absolutely wonderful time at Disney World this year. Here our a few of our favorite pictures. Hope you enjoy them.

Pumpkin Patch

It is our favorite time of year again! It is a family tradition to go to the pumpkin patch in October. Today was a great day filled with hayrides, picking out and carving pumpkins. Here are a few of our favorite pictures.

Happy 7th Birthday Alex!

After weeks and weeks of Alex counting down to July 10 at 3 p.m. for his birthday party with a water slide, we had a repeat of last year. For the second year in a row, and probably because we were banking on the usual hot summer weather, rain threatened Alex’s outdoor party.

With a week of record rainfall (as of July 10, this year had already passed the monthly average), Mom and Dad were nervously watching the forecast. As early as the morning of the party, each of them said that the worst would happen right during the party. So, we made the executive decision at 10 a.m. to move up to 11 a.m. when it was cloudy and humid but not rainy. We have some incredible friends that reacted on short notice.

Fortunately, the time change only meant a couple of no shows. (We are sorry that Kathryn and Colin missed out though.) Instead of 25 kids, we still had about 22 kids enjoying a very wet day on the waterslide with only breaks to eat pizza and Mario cake, which was awesomely created by Carla again.

Thanks to everyone and their kids who came, slid and splashed for a couple hours to celebrate our little boy’s 7th birthday. Happy birthday, Alex, from Mom, Dad and Sydney. We love you and next year, you can give us a birthday present by having your party indoors and reducing our stress level.

Happy 4th Birthday Sydney!!

June 3 has come and gone, so our little Sydney is officially 4 years old. Once again, she wanted to have her birthday party at the Treehouse (at Glenview Baptist Church), so of course, we obliged. Going there for the second year in a row meant we knew exactly what to expect and it was a great (and exhausting) day. The proof in how much Sydney has grown over the last 12 months is obvious by how much easily she was able to scale, climb and conquer all the steps and slides in the treehouse all by herself. With a couple dozen kids running around crazy, along with a few parents (Daron and myself included), Sydney did very well with her party selection. This year, Carla outdid herself with the Tinkerbell cake, which not only looked awesome but was delicious. It is hard to see our little girl get another year older but more than likely, she will keep that sweet and silly demeanor each year too. Mommy and Daddy love you, Syd.

Kindergarten Graduation

I can't believe that kindergarten flew by so quickly! Knowing that we are one day away from having a 1st grader makes me feel so old! Alex has had a wonderful first year of school. He has learned so much and amazes me with his reading ability. At the end of the year, he tested at the middle of 2nd grade level! As much as he loved school, I think we are all ready to have some relaxing time at home over the summer.

Today was the Kindergarten Completion Ceremony. They were so cute! Here are some pics of our little man on his big day!

Sea World Trip

Over Memorial Weekend, we took the kids to San Antonio to celebrate Sydney's birthday. On Friday, we went to the Riverwalk and took the boat tour, Saturday we spent the day at Sea World, and Sunday we went to Fiesta Texas. It was LOTS of fun but VERY hot! Next time remind me to plan that trip in the Fall!
